Serigrafia como meio artístico

Screen printing as an artistic medium

Screen printing is not only a reproductive and commercial technique, it is also a means of artistic creation using plastic resources for this purpose.

The form of screen printing as we know it today (although a printing style was used in China, 960-1279) was invented and patented in 1907 by an Englishman, Samuel Simon, using a screen for quality fabrics and papers.

This method was later improved by other graphic artists, for example, by experimenting with various chemical substances and emulsions, thus obtaining better results.

Key artists in the field:

  • Andy Warhol;
  • Robert Rauschenberg;
  • Eduardo Paolozzi;
  • Richard Hamilton;
  • RB Kitaj;
  • Richard Estes.
